Conceptually, the AdBoss Suite is about knowing what advertising resources you have available when you need to know - when you can still use the information to sell more ads. It's also about making excellent customer service less labor intensive.

StandbyAdBoss™

If you are dummying an edition and remnant space is available, StandbyAdBoss will help you utilize it. Standby ads can be scheduled and selected at the last moment of dummying design. Know your standby ad inventory. Entice new advertisers with teaser rates. Get revenue for what would have been filler. Be aggressive in the pursuit of high-value print ad sales.

ReserveAdBoss™

Newspapers are used to giving advertisers what they want - mostly. Our Layout-8000 customers tell us about the delicate balance they must strike to satisfy multiple advertisers' position requests. Not every advertiser is going to get page A-3. Well-engineered solutions give advertisers positioning that at least satisfies them.

What if an advertiser demands exceptional placement? Provided he or she is willing to pay a premium for it, why not? ReserveAdBoss communicates between your order entry system and Layout-8000. It shows premium position availability for future editions, allowing a guaranteed position sale with veracity.

ReserveAdBoss manages premium position availability so that you know what's available in future editions. Sell a single position in a future edition or multiple positions in multiple future editions. ReserveAdBoss allows you to get a better rate for those better positions.

ColorAdBoss™

For most newspapers, press architecture limits color availability. If you are trying to sell as much color as you might print, the trick comes in knowing just how much you can have for a given edition design.

If color availability is resolved late in the design process by pressroom and layout staff, opportunities to sell it have already passed. Historically, salespeople who work to sell color and then oversell it disappoint advertisers and seldom try again.

ColorAdBoss can help you get beyond this impasse. It provides the knowledge of press color availability to the advertising department when it can still be used to help make color ad sales. Know what you've got and what you can get! Know it well in advance of final edition dummying.

EditionAdBoss™

EditionAdBoss provides a web-based view of the progress of an edition as its ads and pages move through the production workflow. The edition display is updated in real time and is viewable to authorized users throughout the newspaper or from remote locations.



EditionAdBoss uses the output from your ad dummying system (e.g. Layout-8000™) to build a display of the edition showing each page with all the ad positions noted. For zoned editions, multiple versions of each page may be displayed.



If ads are tracked through the production workflow (e.g. by SCS/Track™) , the color of their ad boxes changes to indicate their statuses. A red box indicates that work has not yet begun on the ad, a yellow box indicates that the ad is being worked on and a green box indicates that the ad has been completed. When completed ads are available, the ad images will appear in their proper places. Even without SCS/Track, EditionAdBoss can detect finished ads if they are placed in a dedicated directory on the server.



EditionAdBoss also offers ad data in tabular form. Drilling down shows ad information and ad images. Clicking on any ad will show you information about the ad including the artist currently working on it.

MetaAdBoss™

MetaAdBoss is a business intelligence system for newspaper products. Publishers and advertising directors can use it to analyze how their products are designed. Creative services staff can use it to profile advertising sources. Layout designers can query it to improve ad placement.

The MetaAdBoss data warehouse contains the collection of edition designs that are sent for each product from the ad dummying system (Layout-8000, etc.) to the pagination system (InDesign®, QuarkXPress®, etc.). Most Layout-8000 users will have years’ worth of relevant data available for trend analysis upon installation of MetaAdBoss. MetaAdBoss has built in query and reporting facilities. Senior managers will enjoy making charts and graphs to spot trends. Selecting and sending data to spreadsheets for further analysis is as easy as clicking an icon. You will be able to easily analyze many publication trends based the ultimate data source of your product design. For Layout staff, MetaAdBoss provides valuable assistance. Find out where advertisers ran in the paper. Use this information to guide current ad placement.

PaperCheckAdBoss™

Thorough paper checking at a mid market daily newspaper may be a task for one or more full time equivalents (FTEs), but with PaperCheckAdBoss (PCAB) this can be reduced to an hour or less. Going from order entry, through dummying and pagination have well understood and perfected data and work flows. You go from front to back. But paper checking is about auditing. Auditing goes from back to front, verifying each step. Disparate data sources and staff activities must be validated. If the steps don’t run well in reverse, then the verification process becomes a labor intensive and error prone task. It can be a real mess. It is complicated by the cross departmental nature of the task. It is exacerbated by the requirements to produce accurate position manifests for tearsheet systems.

PaperCheckAdBoss is a module that gathers all the data that might be involved in paper checking and presents it in a graphical form that communicates the verification issues at a glance.

Final ad locations can come from a file (preferably in XML) produced by your pagination system; For InDesign® users with SCS’s InLay™ product or QuarkXpress® users with SCS/LinX™, we have tools to create this file. We also need the images of the pages as PostScript or PDF. The original ad insertion data comes from the Accounting department on the reports (sometimes more than one) used to do manual paper checking. Layout-8000 output files and ad images from pagination unify the paper checking process.

eTearAdBoss™

eTearAdBoss is an electronic tearsheet handler. It matches a list of advertisers who have requested tearsheets with placed ad positions and sends to each advertiser either a copy of the PDF of the page on which the ad appears or a link to the web site where the PDF is stored so the advertiser can download it directly. This is a stand alone product that works with sites that have either AdMAX or Layout.

eBillAdBoss™

eBillAdBoss is an optional add-on to AdMAX™, powered by CAS™. With it, advertisers can view and control their billing information online.

Advertisers securely log into eBillAdBoss and see the current balance, last payment, aging and transactions from the current billing period. Advertisers can search through their past information and drill down for more detail about any ad or payment. Customers are able to view and reprint copies of their statements.

On-account advertisers can make online credit card payments, and any advertiser can view how each payment was applied (i.e., to which invoices and ads).
